Welcome to my website. I have been turning wood for 20 years and for the first 8 years did mostly architectural turning; porch and stair spindles, chair parts, etc. for antique dealers and contractors. Then I did more artistic turning and when I started doing bottle stoppers, the only style available were the long pointed chrome-plated style and I did not like them. I put one on my son's metal lathe, cut it down to a shape I liked and took this prototype to a local family owned and operated machine shop. We had 15 different brands of wine bottles and, after trying several angles, lengths and number of o-rings, found the one that fit all the bottles. Thus was created the SS Niles Bottle Stopper. If, by chance, you find these stoppers do not fit a bottle, first be sure the bottle is perfectly round, then try it in a second bottle. Since there are thousands of bottle sizes, there might be one no metal stopper will fit.

My stoppers will always be made at Steer Machine Tool & Die in Pennsylvania and will never be outsourced offshore. The design became so popular, the owners of the machine shop, Stef and Eric and I got a patent together........it's a lot like being married!
